The 2021 Work Programme of the European Commission includes “An economy that works for people“, claiming social challenges as one of its key concerns. Citizens across the continent are asking for bold actions to be taken. Under the patronage of the Portuguese presidency of the Council and the Commission, an EU Social Summit was organised in Porto this year to discuss a common approach to mitigating the social implications of the Covid-19 pandemic. One of the most discussed and sensitive topics is whether or not a European Minimum Wage should arise across the Member States and how to get there. This On The Agenda event will be the opportunity to discuss the pros and cons of this policy at a European level and try to see what are the next steps.

Introduction by: Daniel Kaddik, Executive Director, European Liberal Forum

Speakers include:

  • Monica Semedo, Member of the European Parliament, Renew Europe Group
  • Delphine Rudelli, Director General, CEEMET – European Tech & Industry Employers
  • Esther Lynch, Deputy Secretary-General, ETUC – European Trade Union Confederation
