The European Liberal Forum asbl (ELF), the political foundation of the ALDE Party, is recruiting a full-time Executive Director to join its secretariat in Brussels.

ELF is the political foundation of the ALDE Party. Together with 39 member organisations, it works all over Europe to bring new liberal ideas into the political debate, to provide a platform for discussion and to enable citizens to make their voices heard. Through its activities, it promotes a free, open and future-oriented liberal Europe.

EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR (F/M)

Responsibilities

The Executive Director is responsible for ensuring the effective and efficient management of the Secretariat and reports to ELF Board of Directors. Essential responsibilities include:

  • Executing the foundation’s strategy as laid out in the mission statement, and specified by the ELF Board;
  • Managing and supervising the financial, administrative and communication activities of the Secretariat;
  • Coordinating the collaboration between teams and units: Project Administration, Finance & Personnel, Strategy & Coordination;
  • Coordinating and evaluating projects according to guidelines in order to fulfil the mission of the foundation;
  • Maintaining relationships with the foundation’s members and associated organisations, particularly the ALDE Party and the ALDE Group in the European Parliament;
  • Continuously improving ELF’s services and performance based on the yearly measurement of Key Performance Indicators;
  • Expanding the network of liberal political foundations, think-tanks and political institutes across Europe;
  • Initiating and implementing fundraising activities;
  • Reviewing and approving contracts for service providers;
  • Ensuring compliance with European and Belgian legislation;
  • Drafting financial and activity reports as well as other performance data.

Professional qualifications

  • University degree equivalent to Masters level in the fields of Business Administration, Strategic Communication, Public Relations, International Relations or similar to fulfil the tasks successfully.
  • Track record of minimum 5 years’ experience in a management role and proven experience in the following fields:
    • Managing human resources;
    • Managing significant financial resources;
    • Launching and evaluating tenders/calls for proposals;
    • Working in a multicultural environment;
    • Proven experience in developing networks;
    • Extensive network within the European liberal family and a passionate advocate for liberalism;
    • Good knowledge of EU funding instruments and grant application procedures;
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills;
    • Good understanding on the role of ICT in the modern workplace and services;
    • Excellent in oral and written English, working knowledge of French or Dutch or other European Languages are an asset;
    • A flexible mindset that can adapt to the administrative and cultural change of the organisation.

Our offer

ELF is offering a permanent contract under Belgian labour law with a competitive negotiable salary, depending on experience, and extra-legal benefits.

Ideal starting date: 1 November 2018.
